Our story
We get it, it’s an odd idea at first.
One of my co-founders, Tim, and I talked about smart toilets for years before a conversation with my mom inspired us to take it seriously.
My mom is a geriatrician, a doctor for older adults. One day we asked her if there was any medical utility in people’s waste, and she didn’t hesitate: absolutely. She had a lot to say about it, most notably that she had stopped giving her phone number to her patients because they sent her so many pictures of their poop.
As Tim and I started to look into the world of gut health, we realized that there are tens of millions of people in the US alone who live with health issues that show up in the GI tract and in the urinary tract. And millions more could simply feel better if they had more clarity about their gut health and hydration.
There are wearables that track sleep, exercise, heart rate, blood oxygen, and more… yet gut health and hydration are still guessing games.
We’re working to change that, giving people clarity and confidence from the comfort of home.
In time, we believe we can save lives.
Our founding team reflects that mission. Tim is an engineer who previously built self-driving car simulations and developed encrypted databases – the perfect skill sets for turning waste into health data, accurately and securely.
John Capodilupo, Throne’s co-founder and Chief Product Officer, was previously co-founder and CTO at WHOOP, where he spent a decade pioneering continuous health insights. He also lives with ulcerative colitis and serves as a proud patient advocate with the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation.
